Cyber Monday, which lands on December 1, is forecast to be the biggest online shopping day of the year. It is the date when many consumers rush to purchase items online to ensure that gifts arrive in time for Christmas. It follows Black Friday, the first Friday after US holiday Thanksgiving, when high street stores launch their seasonal special offers to tempt in Christmas shoppers. Unlike Black Friday, which usually draws huge crowds to bricks-and-mortar stores, Cyber Monday – as the name suggests – takes place online. According to payments service provider Sage Pay, online retailers will take just over £600m in 24 hours this coming Monday as website visits hit 125m in the UK.
