Move offices without disrupting your telecoms

A new premises can be exciting; it may mean that your company is expanding or you may be moving to a more central location. Whatever the reason is for the move, there are many considerations to make, including transferral of your telecoms systems.

Before you sign on a new location, be sure to find out what services are available. If the broadband speed is terrible or the mobile reception is poor, then you may want to reconsider. Find out how many copper wires are feeding the building and if there are enough for what you need? If not, you may be waiting a long time to get additional cables installed. If you go ahead with the move, leave at least 30 days in advance to arrange the transfer of all your services. Speak to your supplier about transferring your number, doing this will mean that all of the connections you have made and all of your advertising materials can continue to be used.

Evaluate your current services, everything from fax and postage machines to credit card machines; make an exhaustive list of every service that you currently use. This will help you to decide if all of these services will be necessary at your new location and account for any gaps in your systems.

Compare service providers; it may seem easier to stay with your current supplier, but what if you can get a better deal? Don’t just compare prices either, look at the IT support that you will receive and the skill of the supplier. Speak with other customers and ask about their experience with the company. Take the time to look at reviews and testimonials and really get a feel for the supplier you are considering.

Once you have moved into your new office, there will be a lot going on. Be sure to change your voicemail, email signatures and any promotional materials to include your new address. You should notify all of your staff about any new technology or systems that you have installed. Take the time to fully train every individual on the system, if they fully understand what they are using, then they will be more productive.
